Clear Lines, Correct Layout
Line striping is the paint on a lot: stall lines, accessible spaces and their aisles, arrows, crosswalks, stop bars, fire lanes, loading zones and painted curbs. Under the Valley sun, traffic paint wears and fades, and a freshly sealed lot has no lines at all. HomeGuide notes that well-maintained striping typically lasts 2 to 5 years.
Restriping and new layouts
Restriping repaints existing lines. A new layout is drawn from scratch, for a new lot, a lot that has been sealed or overlaid, or when you want to change traffic flow or the number of spaces. HomeGuide says new layouts typically cost 20 to 50 percent more than restriping, because of the measuring and layout time.
Accessible parking rules
The Justice Department's restriping guidance says that when a business restripes, it must provide accessible spaces under the 2010 ADA Standards. A lot of up to 25 spaces needs one accessible space; the requirement rises by one for each band after that (26-50, 51-75, 76-100, 101-150), so a 120-space lot needs five. At minimum one, and one in six overall, has to be van-accessible. Widths matter as much as the count: an 8-foot (96-inch) car space needs a 5-foot aisle beside it, while a van space is either 11 feet with a 5-foot aisle or 8 feet with an 8-foot aisle. Signs go at least 5 feet above the ground, and neither the space nor the aisle can slope more than 1:48.
What we stripe

Scheduling
We stripe when the pavement is dry and the lot is quiet: early mornings, evenings or weekends. After sealcoating, we wait for the sealer to cure before painting.
Before you change the layout
If you are adding spaces or changing the flow, we chalk the plan on the pavement first so you can walk it and make changes before any paint goes down.
Visibility for evening customers
Evening is peak time for restaurants, churches and apartment complexes. Bright, fresh lines, painted fire lanes and clearly marked crosswalks help drivers and people walking from their cars, especially when the lot lighting is uneven. Restriping is one of the least expensive ways to make an older lot feel organized again.
Concrete and asphalt
We stripe both asphalt and concrete lots. Concrete is cleaned the same way, and the paint is chosen for the surface so it bonds and wears evenly.

Line Striping Questions
How long does striping last?
HomeGuide puts typical life at 2 to 5 years. Busy lots and full sun wear it faster.
Do I have to add accessible spaces when I restripe?
Yes. Restriping triggers the 2010 ADA Standards for accessible parking under Justice Department guidance.
Can you stripe overnight?
Often, yes, so the lot is ready in the morning.
Do you paint curbs and fire lanes?
Yes, along with arrows, crosswalks and stencils.
